Quality DTF transfers resist cracking and peeling when pressed and washed correctly. Fading risk rises with harsh heat, bleach, and rough drying. The transfer, garment, heat-press application, and care routine all affect how a design looks after washing.
Can DTF transfers crack?
They can, but cracking is more likely when the transfer is under-cured, pressed incorrectly, or exposed to repeated high heat. A properly produced and applied DTF transfer has a flexible finish that moves with the fabric instead of breaking apart during normal wear.
Artwork also matters. Very thin details, fine lines, and distressed effects naturally have less material supporting them than a bold, solid design. A digital proof helps confirm that the artwork is ready for the selected shirt or transfer before production.
Can they peel?
Peeling usually points to an application problem, such as insufficient heat, pressure, or press time, or to a surface that was not suitable for heat application. Correct pressing creates the bond that keeps the transfer attached to the garment. Rushing the press step or applying a transfer to a damp, coated, or unsuitable surface can increase the risk of lifting.
Do DTF prints fade?
DTF prints can fade over time, especially when they are washed aggressively. Bleach, high dryer heat, harsh detergents, and repeated abrasion can wear down color and surface detail faster. Normal care helps protect the print: turn the shirt inside out, wash with a mild detergent, use cool or warm water, and choose a gentle or normal cycle rather than the harshest setting.
How should you wash a DTF shirt?
- Turn the shirt inside out before washing.
- Use cool or warm water and a mild detergent.
- Avoid bleach and harsh stain treatments on the print.
- Use low heat or air dry when possible.
- Do not iron directly over the transfer.
These steps reduce heat, chemical, and friction exposure. They also help the shirt fabric last, which matters because the print and garment wear together.
What about transfers and crew packs?
The same care principles apply to finished custom DTF shirts, individual transfers, gang sheets, and crew packs. LuxPort Print Co specializes in DTF shirts, transfers, and crew packs for San Antonio businesses, contractors, crews, events, and small batches. If you are applying transfers yourself, follow the recommended press instructions for the specific garment and test an unfamiliar fabric before producing a full order.
How do I order?
Order online through LuxPort, upload your artwork, and review the free digital proof before approval. Finished shirts and transfer orders can be shipped nationwide, delivered locally when available, or handed off by appointment. LuxPort is not a walk-in shop. Production resumes October 13, 2026, so do not assume current availability or a rush turnaround.
Whether you need one custom transfer or a larger crew order, the goal is the same: approve the artwork first, apply or press it correctly, and care for the finished shirt in a way that protects the print.
