No. DTF transfers do not need to be mirrored by you. Upload your artwork the way it should read on the shirt. The transfer is printed so the design faces the fabric when you press, and it reads correctly after you peel the film.
Why don't you mirror DTF the way you mirror vinyl?
With heat-transfer vinyl (HTV), you cut the design mirrored because you weed and press it face-down. DTF works differently. The printer lays color and white ink on a clear film, then powder adhesive goes on top of that ink. When you press, the adhesive side meets the shirt, and the design is already oriented to read the right way once the film peels off.
If you mirror a DTF file before upload, text and logos can come out backwards on the shirt. That is one of the most common file mistakes we see.
How should my artwork look before I upload?
- Text should read left to right the way you want it on the garment.
- Logos should face the correct direction.
- Numbers on sports-style designs should face forward.
- Leave a transparent background so only the design prints.
Think of the file as a preview of the finished shirt. What you see on screen should match what you want on the fabric.
Does LuxPort flip the file for me?
We print transfers so they press correctly when you follow the peel instructions. You do not need to mirror the file in Canva, Photoshop, or Illustrator. If something in your layout looks flipped already, fix it before you upload, or note it in the order comments so we can confirm the orientation with you.
What about left-chest logos and names?
Left-chest logos, sleeve marks, and name drops follow the same rule. Keep them upright and readable in the file. Placement on the shirt is a press decision, not a mirroring decision. For sizing tips, see our guide on where a left-chest logo should be placed.
What file formats work best?
Transparent PNG at about 300 DPI is a strong default. We also accept PDF, SVG, AI, EPS, JPG and JPEG. Avoid screenshots and low-resolution web logos when you can. Blurry edges stay blurry on film. If you build a full gang sheet layout, keep the sheet 12 inches wide and leave a little space between designs so they cut apart cleanly.
How do I check orientation before I order a gang sheet?
- Open your file and zoom in on every line of text.
- Confirm names, dates, and website URLs read correctly.
- If you packed several designs on one sheet, check each one, not only the largest.
- Upload to our 12" wide gang sheet builder and use the layout notes if any design needs special attention.
We review files for resolution, transparency, and fit before printing, and we contact you if something looks off.
What happens if text looks fine on screen but wrong on the shirt?
If the on-screen preview looks correct and the shirt still comes out backwards, check whether a design program auto-flipped the export for "iron-on" or "HTV" mode. Some templates default to mirrored output. Turn that option off for DTF, re-export a transparent PNG, and compare the new file to the shirt mockup before you reorder.
Also check multi-design gang sheets carefully. One mirrored icon mixed into a sheet of correct logos is easy to miss when you are packing the layout quickly.
Do names and numbers follow the same rule?
Yes. Player names, jersey numbers, and lockup text should face forward in the file exactly as fans should read them from the stands. If you are building a sports pack with many names, proof every row before upload. We print what the file shows, so a single flipped name stands out in team photos.
Frequently asked questions
Do I mirror DTF transfers in Canva?
No. Export the design as it should appear on the shirt. Do not flip it horizontally for DTF.
Why did my DTF print come out backwards?
The most common cause is mirroring the artwork before upload. Upload it readable, then press with the adhesive side against the fabric.
Is DTF the same as sublimation for mirroring?
No. Sublimation paper is often printed mirrored. DTF film is prepared so you upload artwork in its final reading direction.
Can I put mirrored and normal designs on one gang sheet?
You can, but only if you intend one design to read backwards on the shirt. For standard logos and text, keep every design readable in the file.
