I Approved a Shirt Proof With a Typo. What Are My Options Now?

October 19, 2026LuxPort Print Co

Contact us right away at team@luxportprint.co with your order number, because if production has not started yet, you can ask about cancelling and placing a corrected order. Once a personalized order has been approved or entered production, cancellation may not be possible, and spelling or wording errors that were in the approved proof are not eligible for returns or exchanges. Your practical options are then to use the shirts as they are or order corrected shirts—and LuxPort Print Co in San Antonio has no minimum order, so you can reorder only the shirts that need fixing.

Why is a typo in an approved proof handled differently from a printing mistake?

The approved proof is the reference for production. A typo visible in that proof differs from printing that does not match the approved design.

We send a design proof before production, and production begins after your approval. The proof is your chance to review names, dates, numbers, colors, and wording. Under our Return and Refund Policy, personalized items are not eligible for returns or exchanges because of customer-submitted spelling, wording, color, or date errors, incorrect size selection, or a change of mind.

If your approved proof shows a misspelled reunion name and the shirts show that same spelling, they follow the approved design. If the proof spells it correctly but the shirts show something different, that calls for review. Typos happen to everyone, and understanding the difference matters.

If an order arrives damaged, defective, incorrect, or materially different from the approved proof, email team@luxportprint.co within 7 days of delivery with your order number and clear photos. We review it and, when the problem is our error or a product defect, provide a replacement or another appropriate resolution.

What should I do first after spotting the typo?

Compare the printed shirt with the exact proof you approved, then email us promptly. That comparison helps identify the appropriate next step.

Check whether the typo is on the proof or only on the shirt

Find the final approved version, not an earlier design or message. Compare each letter of the affected line with the shirt, including punctuation and spacing. If the printed shirt is materially different from your approved proof, follow the delivery-issue process above instead of treating it as an approved typo.

Email your order number, a photo, and the approved proof

Write to team@luxportprint.co with the order number, the exact wording you received, the correct wording, a copy of the approved proof, and a clear photo if the shirt has arrived. For a group, explain whether every shirt is affected or only certain names. Specific details help us review the situation without guessing.

If production has not begun, ask about cancellation

You may request a cancellation before production begins. Once a personalized order has been approved or entered production, cancellation may not be possible. Ask whether cancellation can still be considered; do not assume that emailing a correction changes the approved order. If cancellation is available, ask about placing a corrected order. We cannot promise an edit, cancellation, refund, or reprint.

What are my options if the shirts are already printed?

If the shirts match a proof containing the typo, you can use them as they are or place a separate corrected order. With no minimum order, you can replace only the adult shirts that need fixing.

Use the shirts as they are

A minor typo on a lighthearted family or event shirt sometimes becomes part of the story. Consider how noticeable it is, whether the message still works, and who will wear it. For a professional uniform, someone's name, or an important date, ordering a corrected version may make more sense. It is your decision.

Order corrected shirts for only the people who need them

Custom T-Shirts — Upload or Design Your Own are $24.99 for front-only printing or $29.99 for front-and-back printing. Available colors are White, Black, Gray, Navy, and Red, in adult sizes S–3XL. Reorder one or just the number of corrected shirts you need.

For sailing groups, Custom Cruise Shirts are $27.99 for front-only printing or $32.99 for front-and-back printing. Check the updated artwork against your group list before approving it.

What if a full crew or business needs new shirts?

For a complete new run, the 12 Custom Work Shirts — Business Starter Pack is $155.88, and the 24 Custom Contractor Work Shirts – Crew Special is $311.76. Both include front and back printing. Double-check corrected business names, phone numbers, and role labels before approval.

How do I upload the corrected design?

Upload the corrected final design file for the new order, not a photo of the old shirt. The final artwork should contain exactly the words and details you want printed.

Use the same shirt color, print side, and placement as the original if you want a consistent look. Include the original order number in the new order notes and identify what changed. We match to the same file and settings you give us, so check the new proof rather than assuming it carries over earlier changes.

Because these are separate orders, an exact color or print match cannot be guaranteed. Keep that in mind if the new shirts will appear beside the original group in photos.

How do I catch a typo before approving next time?

Read the final proof deliberately, not just for its overall appearance. Each letter and number is part of the artwork you are approving.

Read it out loud, then backwards word by word

Read each line aloud normally. Then start at the last word and work backwards through the text. This makes it harder to overlook missing letters, repeated words, or wording your brain has automatically corrected.

Check every name letter by letter against your list

Compare each name with the spelling supplied by its wearer. Check initials, accents, hyphens, and numbers too. A familiar-looking name is not necessarily spelled correctly.

Check dates, years, and numbers twice

Verify event dates, anniversary years, phone numbers, and any digits in the artwork against a separate written reference. An older design may carry an outdated year, even if everything else looks right.

Zoom in on small text

Inspect tiny wording, curved lines, and text beside illustrations. Make sure the letters are present, legible, and correct rather than letting the main graphic distract you.

Choose one proof approver for group orders

Designate one person to check the final proof against your master list. When five people skim it, each may assume someone else checked the details. Keep names, adult sizes, and personalization details in one spreadsheet to make that final comparison easier.

Can I change the design after placing the order but before approving the proof?

Yes—reply to the proof with the exact correction instead of approving it. Identify the original text and the replacement text, then review the next proof carefully. Once a personalized order has been approved or entered production, changes and cancellations may not be possible.
